To obtain a meaningful position in the shipping industry, where I can utilize my experience, knowledge & skills that I have gathered at sea. I have been working closely with general cargo and chemical tankers for more than a decade. My ideal position would allow me to use my experience and knowledge in ship operation, management, safety, training & business analysis for increasing the productivity of the company and customer service. I would like to grow further within a company’s shore-based position and gain further knowledge to expand my career & views. Present role as technical superintendent: A Technical Superintendent in the shipping industry plays a crucial role in ensuring that vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations. The responsibilities of a Technical Superintendent are diverse and cover various aspects of ship management and maintenance. Here are some key duties typically associated with the role: 1. Maintenance and Repairs: Oversee and coordinate the maintenance and repair activities of the fleet. Ensure that vessels are in compliance with class and statutory requirements. Develop and implement planned maintenance programs. 2. Budgeting and Cost Control: Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and repair activities. Monitor and control expenses related to technical operations. Optimize costs without compromising safety and quality. 3. Technical Support: Provide technical support to vessels, both remotely and during port visits. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may arise during operations. Coordinate with technical teams and contractors to address complex problems. 4. Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about changes in maritime regulations and ensure fleet compliance. Work with relevant authorities to obtain necessary certifications and approvals. 5. Dry Docking: Plan and coordinate vessel dry-docking activities. Supervise and monitor repairs, inspections, and upgrades during dry-docking. 6. Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain a quality management system for technical operations. Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to quality standards. 7. Procurement and Inventory Management: Manage the procurement of spare parts, equipment, and supplies. Optimize inventory levels to minimize downtime and control costs. 8. Safety and Environmental Compliance: Implement and monitor safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices. 9. Communication: Maintain regular communication with vessel crews and other relevant stakeholders. Report to senior management on the technical condition of the fleet. 10. Training and Development: Develop and implement training programs for vessel crews on technical matters. Keep abreast of industry developments and technologies. 11. Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans for technical incidents. Coordinate responses to technical emergencies. The Technical Superintendent works closely with various departments, including operations, crewing, and safety, to ensure the overall success of the shipping operations. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, managerial skills, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
