Through my time as a Dental Hygienist and even working at a professional beauty supply store, I developed communication skills that I had never had before. I was always very shy, but each work place allowed me to come out of my shell. In the last 5 years, from the moment I started the Dental Hygiene program to working in the field, I was able to really strengthen my skills. I learned how to adapt no matter where I was. In a way, I was able to "travel around the world" while staying in a 60 mile radius from home. I experienced different cultures with the patients I got to interact with, the many different offices I was able to work at and the communities they were located in. The dental world runs on time management, organization, paying attention to detail, being able to adapt in a new work place environment and changes in a schedule. Every office uses a software program of their choosing, so I was able to learn different software programs from what I was used to in school. Strong communication, empathizing with patients to be able to deliver the best experience for them, developing relationships and being a team player in your workplace is super important. I was able to motivate patient's to take care of their oral health, be enthusiastic to make the trip to the dentist a fun experience for all patients and get to know my patients to build relationships. There were so many patients who loved the deep personal talks I initiated. I enjoyed being a listening ear for the ones who were having a bad day and for the ones who enjoyed having conversations. I also learned to respect the ones who weren't ready to talk. Now, I'm wanting to use these skills and gifts for the Lord and His Kingdom.
I received my Cosmetology license in High School which I feel was a big accomplishment! I love hair, nails, make-up and fashion. Though I never worked in a salon, I love coloring my own hair and my family members. I've even gone platinum blonde and did it myself twice in my life!
