Work History

SLP Graduate Clinician

St. Ignatius Of Loyola School
Cincinnati , Ohio
01.2024 - Current
  • 40 hours per week for 13 weeks. 2 and 1/2 days per week spent with on-site SLP's caseload of Kindergarten through 4th grade students and 2 and a 1/2 days per week spent other on-site SLP's caseload of students in 5th grade through 8th grade.
  • K-4 grade population caseload largely included treatment of fluency, speech sound disorders, reading comprehension (main idea, context clues, making inferences, etc.), pragmatic social language (problem solving, expected vs. unexpected behaviors, other perspectives, if... then...)
  • 5-8 grade population caseload largely included treatment of fluency, reading comprehensions, writing expansion, and social pragmatic language therapy (problem solving, think it vs. say it, hyperboles, idioms, if... then..., sarcasm, hidden thoughts, entering, maintaining, and exiting conversations, identifying internal state and how that pertains to emotions to self-regulate, and asking for help).
  • Experience using the Expanding Expressions Tool, the complexity approach, and "Everyday Speech" for pragmatic therapy.
  • Experienced push in classroom service delivery/support in this placement very often with students in grades 5 through 8.
  • Introduced to heavy use of authentic assessment measures vs. standardized measures. (specifically School-age Language Assessment Measures (SLAM))
  • Sat in on numerous RTI, ETR, and IEP meetings, and helped write a new ETR and IEP using Ohio learning standards to develop unique, individualized goals.
  • Introduced to and immensely grew capacity to carry out pediatric group therapy treatments with the ability to cater an activity that effectively works on a plethora of goals while balancing my attention across children and maintaining full engagement from all students.
  • Gained a love, passion, and excitement for treating fluency disorders. Supervisor introduced me to a wonderful approach to stuttering. She taught me that a student is ready to be discharged and "fly free" from speech therapy when they have a more positive than negative outlook on their speech, have the ability to teach another person about stuttering, the ability to advocate for themselves, and no longer hold back or alter the things the messages they want to share.

Outpatient and Inpatient SLP Graduate Clinician

OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital
Athens, OH
02.2023 - 04.2024
  • One 8 hour day per week, seeing 6-10 patients per day, for 45 minute sessions, ages ranging from 10 months old to 101 years old, presenting with a wide variety diagnoses and/or speech/language disorders.
  • Populations and diagnoses I frequently treated in this setting include CAS, Pediatric Autism (Ages 2-10), Language therapy with NAS (targeting executive functioning, theory of mind, and play skills), Brocas aphasia with AOS post stroke, Wernicke's aphasia post stroke, dementia, brain tumors, long COVIS, pediatric+ adult concussion, and EI language development.
  • Outpatient setting further developed flexibility skills and capacity to develop a therapy activity that targets client goals or adequate evaluation interview questions rather quickly as many say in outpatient "you are never certain who will walk through the door".
  • Participated in inpatient and outpatient therapy implementation.
  • Placement allowed for increased confidence and comfortability performing bedside swallow evaluations while thoroughly assessing all stages of the swallow.
  • Thrived with managing behaviors of pediatric population patients, always remaining "3 steps ahead" of the situation, thinking creatively, and on my toes in order to effectively, safely, and efficiently deescalate situations and feelings.
  • Navigated parent education opportunities with professionalism, empathy, and with active listening.

10.2022 - 12.2023
  • One day per week in clinic, seeing 2-4 patients in a day, for 45 minute sessions, ages ranging from 10 months old to 76 years old.
  • Participated on a "diagnostic team" from August 2023 to December 2023, given patients history I developed interview questions, chose standardized test measures suitable for the client, carried out an independent evaluation, wrote up the evaluation report within 48 hours of seeing the client, decided if services were needed, and created a plan of care with carefully curated goals unique to the client for the future assigned SLP student to implement and target.
  • Populations and diagnoses I treated in this setting include gender affirming voice therapy, present progressive aphasia post stroke (using MIT, targeting narrative conversational story telling, and teaching strategies for word finding and naming), CAS, pediatric mixed expressive and receptive language disorder, pediatric speech sound disorders (using auditory discrimination, auditory bombardment, Bjorem sound cards, minimal pairs approach, forward and backward chaining, and counting out words in sentences with tactile cues).
  • Trusting own clinical judgement and decision making as an SLP cultivated in this environment. Interacted with and educated families and clients independently or with one other student clinician.
