  • Under the supervision of the Director General of Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health- Erbil, responsibilities were to: (1) Manage the preventive health department covering Public Health & Primary Health Care related projects including seven sections: CDC, MCHC, Immunization, FoodSafety/Health Audit,, Occupational safety sections, (2) Provide guidance to the Director General of Health in in Suleimaniyah Governorate on project planning, implementation and monitoring; (3) Organize and participate in training of trainers, (4) Evaluate, review and revise existing project monitoring systems and ensure effective and efficient monitoring system, (5) Undertake field visits to monitor the programme of the Primary Health Care centers (PHCs), (7) coordination with the Central Ministry of Health- Baghdad, (8) coordination with UN agencies (WHO, UNICEF), local & International NGOs.
  • Assigned by the Regional Ministry of Health-Erbil as the head of the committee for adopting “Hospital Infection Control��� in Kurdistan. Lecturing in the DOHs of Duhok, Erbil and Suleimaniyah to establish the sections of Hospital Infection control in the three DOHs.

Working with UNICEF- Oil for Food Program as Assistant Project Officer (APO) Health & Nutrition (NOA step 11) Under the supervision of the Liaison officer and the Head of Health & Nutrition Section, responsibilities were to: (1) Provide guidance to local authorities and NGOs in Suleimaniyah Governorate on project planning, implementation and monitoring; develop standardized training curricula for all technical training activities planned for the program. (2) Organize and participate in training of trainers; undertake action on operational procedures affecting project implementation and management through co-ordination with the Operations/Supply staff on supply and non-supply assistance activities related to the projects. (3) Ensure proper and timely material supply planning and Government accountability through liquidation of advances. (4) Certify disbursements of funds, monitor and submit financial status report to Section Head; (5) Evaluate, review and revise existing project monitoring systems and ensure effective and efficient monitoring system in collaboration with partners (local authorities, NGOs and communities). (6) Undertake field visits to monitor programme, as well as conduct periodic programme reviews with local authorities and other partners; (7) Make recommendations for areas of policy and strategy change or development to strengthen community management of the sector from lessons learned in project implementation. Contribute towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis, monthly and annual and other periodic reports of the section.

  • In addition to the above I was given responsibilities under the supervision of UNICEF coordinator for UNICEF northern Iraq. Erbil: Head of Health section UNICEF Northern Iraq main office, Erbil for the month of July 1997. Officer-In-Charge (OIC) for UNICEF Suleimaniyah Office: 1 August-30 Sept 1997 and 22 December 1997-I May 1998. 28 September 2000 – 22 Mach 2001 12 February -25 May 2003 Before the current job (point 11.1 above) I spent six months vacation with my family outside Iraq.
