Work History

Environmental Health Specialist 2

Mohave County Department of Public Health
12.2015 - 01.2020
  • Primarily responsible for food safety
  • Inspected restaurants for compliance with the FDA Food Code.
  • Passed exams and became an Arizona Registered Sanitarian, a NEHA Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian, an Arizona State Licensed Health Inspector
  • Inspected restaurants, aided operators to comply with food code
  • Developed programs for inspection procedures

Lab Manager/Research Assistant/Anatomy Department/Mary Kearns-Jonker Lab

Loma Linda University
09.2011 - 12.2015
  • Successfully isolated and cloned over 200 cardiac progenitor cell lines from 17 human atrial tissue samples, with 45 characterized via IHC, proliferation assays, PCR and flow cytometry.
  • Cultured hESC and iPSC and successfully differentiated them into beating cardiomyocytes. Stained cells via IHC and utilized confocal microscope for publication images.
  • Isolated, maintained and characterized over one hundred sheep cardiac progenitor clones, performing RNA isolation, making cDNA and performing rtPCR and flow cytometry, from both normal and long-term hypoxic cardiac tissue.
  • Cultured and labeled sheep cardiac progenitor cells, which were injected into infarcted sheep hearts. Subsequently sectioned heart tissue to assess cardiac repair via IHC staining and confocal microscopy.
  • Cultured cardiac progenitor cells under simulated microgravity for NASA project currently in progress.
  • Produced, purified and quantified large quantities of protein from e.coli, utilizing salt fractionation and Ni-NTA resin.
  • Trained students, interns and post-docs in cell culture technique, protein purification and general lab methods.
  • Prepared and presented PowerPoint summaries to present data to Medical Center faculty and lab personnel.
  • Reviews current literature and assists Principal Investigator with research direction, IACUC documentation and time lines.

Lab Manager/Lab Tech 3/Biomedical Sciences/Monica Carson Lab

University of California, Riverside
01.2009 - 06.2011
  • Responsible for all Laboratory Management functions, including purchasing, maintenance, all aspects of safety, including compliance with EH&S, radiation and hazardous waste safety training and regulations.
  • Responsible for the day to day smooth functioning of a laboratory with one graduate student and 8 undergraduates, including assigning and supervising undergraduate work.
  • Trained all lab undergraduates and rotating graduate students.
  • Solely responsible for breeding, weaning and genotyping 45 strains of transgenic mice. Developed new PCR protocols for genotyping.

Lab Tech 3/Biomedical Sciences/David Lo Lab

University of California, Riverside
01.2009 - 06.2010
  • Transfected Spodoptera cell lines with recombinant DNA to produce proteins for mucosal vaccine research and development, produced large batches of protein in cell culture media, successfully increased production.
  • Purified protein utilizing salt fractionation and cobalt resin, screened for protein production/purity by Western Blot analysis, Coomassie staining, and PCR, quantified by Bradford and BCA assays.
  • Extensive small animal work, including nasal, gastric and sub-cutaneous immunizations, retro-orbital bleeding and bronchial alveolar lavage.

Scientist/ Laboratory Manager Monoclonal Antibody Facility

Beckman Instruments
11.1981 - 01.1988
  • Supervised a staff of 5 employees and participated in all phases of monoclonal antibody development, from initial immunizations, spleen harvests, cell fusions, cell culture, subsequent clonings and ELISA and RIA screenings, through murine ascites fluid production and quality control.
  • Prepared and presented oral and written reports for upper research management review.
  • Functioned as technical liaison for the Carlsbad marketing group, working closely with customers to answer technical questions to consummate and increase sales of monoclonal reagents.
  • Prepared all necessary documentation for the facility, including batch records and standard operating procedures.

Research Lab Technician

Loma Linda University
09.1980 - 11.1981
  • Responsible for starting and maintaining primary cultures of fetal rat lung and liver, and mouse kidney epithelial cells, performed HPLC analysis of metabolites.

Research Lab Technician

Harbor/UCLA Medical Center
08.1979 - 09.1980
  • Isolated and identified collagen types from human cartilage and fetal membranes. Utilized many biochemical techniques for protein separation and analysis, including polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, column chromatography, and fractional salt precipitation.
