I began nearly ten years as a transport volunteer with Chicagoland Lab Rescue, a 100% volunteer organization that rescues and re-homes Labrador Retrievers. After a year or so, I started serving as the transport coordinator. This position required monitoring multiple weekly transports of dogs from out-of-state and managing a team of volunteers, whose task was to meet the transports and convey the dogs to vet or foster-home. Marking the need for more funds in order to help the many dogs in need, I organized the rescue's first formal fundraising event, a dinner-auction, that has continued as an annual event for seven years. As the chair of the event committee, I led a team of volunteers and together we staged these annual events, all of which were successful both in financial and public relations terms.
