Volunteer Experience

  • The volunteer work that I loved was in Kenya. The first time was in 2017, stayed for four months, then another time in 2018 for three months. The team and I stayed and served in an orphanage called Full of Love. We spent most of our time there. We helped the children with basic life necessities, school work, and, most importantly, building relationships with the children by loving and spending time with them. We also worked with a street kid shelter called Embrace. These boys are going through rehabilitation from drugs and physical abuse. We served by teaching English class and doing activities to get their minds off reality.
Another thing we did was go to communities that lived in poverty. We helped them by providing food and medical work, such as removing jiggers from their feet and hands. We also went to the desert, where there is no modern civilization, and did medical clinics. Providing medication by bringing a licensed doctor to examine them physically, examine their wounds, and prescribe medications that are not easily accessible because the nearest medical help is a 4-hour walk. Going to Kenya changed my whole perspective on life, and I am very grateful to have experienced a different world.
