- Worked on the overhaul sub, taking out all the parts to sell back to the Navy via the engine room, turbines, and propeller.
- Clean and refurbish the part for resale. Then get them inspected by inspectors or engineers.
- While working on the overhaul side, I also worked with hydraulic systems, for example, making sure specific doors open or making sure certain gears turn in the right sequence.
- Also got to work on the section 9 part of the boat with one of the best crews in the shop. We did jobs like boring out holes from the engine back to the rudders. Did a lot of testing, such as making sure the studs were sealed properly, the torque specs were within tolerance, and ensuring that the stud was centered correctly on the ship.
- Also got to be part of a three-man team to use this brand-new CNC spot-facing machine from Climax that was designed specifically for spot facing (cleaning the material of the ship to the right thickness) on the aft end of the sub. Then, I trained other shifts on how to run the machine.

- laid out material parts that had just been finished coming from the burning skids. For example, write down the part number, boat hull, date, and instructions on what to do with the plate, whether telling the crane to take it to either the grinding block, rolling press, or the burning cells to get a bevel put on the part.
- I excelled so well that I got the opportunity to run the CNC Messer burning machine. Once I was able to master the CNC machine, my foreman entrusted me to teach other new hires how to run the CNC machine, so the production stays up.
