Nov -April I was a still doing my same groundman job just getting apprentice hours and pay. April -July I was the low step apprentice on a pole change out crew. I delivered poles to the sites. Framed poles, dug pole holes by hand, helped set poles, handed up material , made up triplex connections. Climbed when necessary. We went on a couple storms in ks.
Layed 6 inch pipe in a duct bank as deep as 15 feet down. We also set manholes. I operated a skid steer and a dump truck daily. I did a lot of hand digging to find utilities.
I climbed everyday and trimmed the trees over the powerlines. We would get 10 feet of clearance away from the primary. Sometimes we would use bucket trucks and back yard machines. Did a fair amount of storm work in kc to get the power back on. Sometimes we would climb as high as 80 feet and remove all the limbs that were hanging over the line.
