In my union operating position at belt paving, I am responsible for the safe and effective use of various pieces of equipment. These machines include, but are not limited to, wheel loaders, excavators, bulldozers, telehandlers, manlifts, and skid steers. I also operate a tri-axle dumptruck on site, daily. My responsibilities at Belt Paving also include plant maintenance and repair. This encompasses a broad mix of welding, minor fabrication, replacing wear items, along with many other tasks.
At our small family business I used to operate heavy equipment, weld, do extensive mechanic work, along with any other various tasks associated with the business.
In this job, my sole purpose is to attempt to buy alcohol or tobacco under age in an effort to see if area businesses are acting in compliance with the law. To do this, I walk into a place of business or a bar and ask to be served. In the event they do, I receive the product, return to the vehicle, that is driven by two sheriffs deputy’s, and give them the product, as well as a description of the person who sold to me. In the event the seller does ask, I simply say that I forgot my id in my car and return to the vehicle.
In my two summers at 1812 Brewery, I was in charge of growing a small field of barley, mowing grass, occasional tasks on heavy machinery and tending to livestock. Anything that needed done, I did.
