I chose nursing as my profession because although nursing can be stressful and discouraging at times, it is also a very rewarding career. Nurses are able to make significant impacts on patients as well as greatly impact their quality of life.
I believe the core of nursing to provide the most adequate, safe, and appropriate care to all patients. There should be no exceptions as to why adequate care of a patient is not provided. The core of nursing reflects on the nurse-patient relationship. This can greatly impact the care the patient as well as impact their lives as well.
I believe the focus of nursing is meeting patient needs, promote healing, and ensuring patient safety. Nurses are to be trustworthy, advocate for their patients, and to provide the best care possible for each individual.
To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember the following about:
My patients: remember when they are in a vulnerable state to consider how they are feeling and make to them feel comfortable.
My patients’ families: remember to include them in the care, but ensure safety of the patient.
My fellow healthcare professionals: remember to work collaboratively and respectfully to ensure a healthy work environment.
My own health: remember to ensure my own safety and to ask for help when needed.
As a nurse, I will remember that I am responsible for the care I provide to my patients. Each day as a nurse I will make the decision to provide the best possible care I can to my patients and protect their well-being. I will not judge, I will not cause harm, and I will provide a safe environment for my patients. I will strive for the best outcome and care for my patients.
