Learn To Be helps children and adolescents from underserved communities receive much-needed academic assistance through free online tutoring sessions. I was matched with a Kindergarten-aged student. During the initial tutoring sessions, I administered an assessment to determine his level of reading ability. Then, I designed engaging virtual sessions that provided instruction while monitoring and promoting progress. I also collaborated with parents regularly to support the student and address any additional academic concerns.
During my gap year abroad, I volunteered for an organization called the OneFamily Fund. This organization provides support for families that were affected by terrorist attacks. I was assigned a specific family for my volunteer work, and I supported that family every week for a year. I organized and facilitated engaging games and activities for children, fostering a positive and enjoyable environment. I also assisted with household tasks to support the family's needs and cared for their children, ensuring their safety and well-being as needed. This opportunity strengthened my interpersonal communication skills to convey information to others.
