  • I have filled several roles here. I started as a phone agent. As an agent, deescalation was a vital skill, as well as competence with Verizon's systems. No resolution is possible until the proper environment for dialog is created.
  • Next I was moved to the social media department, responding to customer requests, messages and comments. I was also part of their first tier-2 tech support team.
  • I also filled 2 different supervisor roles, each one for 1 year. As a super-user for the social media team, I would monitor the work of our new hires and help their development until they were ready to go into the normal work queue.
  • As a trainer/coach for customer care, I took a class of 10 to 25 new hires and trained them in a 6 week course in Verizon's business systems and in customer care.
  • I was responsible for daily reports tracking attendance, skill progress, individual challenges to good performance, and overall morale with the position and company.
  • While still a needed skill as a supervisor, more important was building a team that sees the value in their role, themselves and each other. While discipline and rule enforcement is needed, having your team want to be there and feel good about the work they do often delivers better results.
