My strongest ability and experience in the OR is operating in very high stress environments. While the vast majority of my experience has been very specialized in cardiac surgery the personal skills I have gained in the specialty have made very strong at my job. I am used to working on extremely sick and dying patients where minutes and seconds count in patient out come. It has made me very good and quick decision making and being able to step up and do what is needed to provide the best care to our patients.
Cardiac surgery holds you to very high standards of being able to do very long difficult cases were we are expected to know every single step and preference of each doctor in every case we do on a regular bases. When we do cases where things are not as planned or uncommon we are expected to be able to think ahead of what the doctor is most likely going to do to resolve the situation. The team I work on is one of the busiest and most prestigious cardiac surgery groups in the south east and even the country. While we are a very small team we preformed more cases and more difficult cases then even most university institutes in the state. I am very used to working very hard,
While it has been a while since I have done other specialties and even then when I did other specialties I was only a student, I have the ability to quickly learn new cases and adapt to a new role. As a student I did many common general surgery cases, urology cases and orthopedic surgery cases. Ortho surgery was my strongest specialty in school. I enjoyed while I was in my second rotation at a small rural hospital that didn't have any first assists, being able to be more involved in the cases and assisting more then most scrub techs at other hospitals get to experience.
I worked very hard in school to be able to have an opportunity to start my surgery carrier in a high level role where most new graduates wouldn't normally have a chance to start at. I did this to push my self and to learn as much as possible. I felt the personal experience I would gain would be important to me in the start of my carrier. I worked hard in clinicals to learn and work and be more then just a student and to help where I can. In class I studied as much as I could and took it very serious and was able to graduate with a 4.0 GPA. I have worked hard to keep the same drive In my job and have succeeded very well so far. While I have enjoyed cardiac surgery there is more for me to experience then just this specialty and I'm ready for a new chapter.
