Driven and versatile, I leveraged my organizational skills and empathy at Jacaranda School for Orphans, enhancing educational programs and student engagement. As co-founder of TheJasmineRoseShop, I showcased initiative and client relations strength, growing a startup to over a thousand mask sales, demonstrating profound teamwork, and financial management acumen.
I volunteered at the Jacaranda preschool and primary school for a month in Africa. I spent a lot of time at the primary school where I assisted the teachers. For all grade levels, I graded exams, taught lessons in math and English, and worked with the kids one on one. While at the preschool, I played blocks with the kids, read stories, and helped serve them their daily porridge. I also got the privilege of leading the sports side of the school where I organized soccer games and basketball tournaments. Aside from working with the children, I worked alongside school staff where I got to share ideas and communicate what new programs and elective classes would benefit the kids most.
During lockdown, my best friend and I both knew how to sew so we began to sew masks for friends and family. As our masks got better and better, we started to sell them. I created an Instagram to promote our business and we got a lot of attention. I sewed 20-30 masks every day and we sold over a thousand masks. Apart from online sales, I did in-person markets. With this business, I learned how to communicate and support customers. I also managed all the financial accounts to maintain our budgets and ensure profitability.
