Summary

I am a dedicated structural engineer with a robust background in bridge analysis, reinforced concrete design, and reliability evaluation of structures. Currently at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., I focus on seismic fragility evaluations for nuclear facilities and the development of site-specific design response spectra. My experience spans conducting research projects for federal agencies and private institutions, emphasizing code calibration and data analytics to enhance structural performance and safety.

I hold a graduate degree from Auburn University, where I was actively involved in research on segmental bridge load ratings and the reliability of concrete structures. My previous role as a Technical Inspector and Lecturer at Austral University of Chile further honed my expertise in structural engineering and academic collaboration.

Throughout my career, I have successfully contributed to significant projects, including seismic evaluations for major nuclear power plants in France and the assessment of machinery foundations across various industrial applications. My research efforts have led to the development of guidelines and statistical analyses that advance our understanding of structural safety.

Work History

Project Consultant

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc.
1 2023 - Current
  • Nuclear Facilities: Developed seismic structural fragility evaluations for Saint-Alban and Cruas Nuclear Power Plants in France, ensuring compliance for structures, systems, and components (SSCs). Conducted research for Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) on deeply embedded nuclear power plants, including regulations and waterproofing strategies for small modular reactors (SMRs). Created design response spectra and probabilistic site response analyses for SHINE Technologies and generated synthetic ground motions for Kairos Power's Hermes Reactor, focusing on seismic isolation systems. Conducted construction reviews for Modular Integrated Gas-cooled High Temperature Reactor (MIGHTR) at Boston Atomics.
  • Machinery Foundations: Assessed structural strength of foundation anchorage systems at Puget Sound Plant and developed repair designs for turbine foundations at Westlake Corporation. Evaluated compressor foundation vibrations in Texas and performed inspections of circulation pump foundations in Oklahoma, utilizing soil-structure interaction finite element modeling for optimal repair strategies.

Graduate Teaching & Research Assistance

Auburn University
01.2019 - 01.2022
  • During my time at Auburn University, I contributed to several key research projects focused on structural engineering. I performed comprehensive literature reviews and statistical analyses for various initiatives, including proposed AASHTO guideline for load rating segmental bridges and calibration of flexural strength reduction factors for precast concrete elements. I developed finite element models using Midas Civil FEM software for segmental bridges and conducted Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate reliability factors. Additionally, I analyzed Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) data for CALTRANS to assess bridge deck design loads and cracking, while also creating finite element models for traffic safety barriers. These projects collectively enhanced the understanding of structural performance and safety in engineering practices.

Technical Inspector & Lecturer

Austral University of Chile
01.2017 - 01.2019

In my role as a Technical Inspector, I ensured that site operations were executed in accordance with contractual terms while fostering effective communication among various teams. I clearly communicated contract specifications to all stakeholders and collected and analyzed information related to project execution. I reviewed resources and materials to ensure compliance with requirements, requested quality reports, and sought expert evaluations when necessary. Additionally, I managed the work control book to track changes, agreements, and commitments established in meetings. By utilizing relevant information and sound judgment, I assessed compliance with laws, regulations, and standards, effectively conveying both technical and non-technical information through written and verbal communication.

Additionaly, I hold a Lecutrer position for undergrad course "Graphic Methods for Engineering" for 1 semester.
