Summary

My long-term goals in research are to contribute to understand the synaptic basis of behavioral disorders to contribute to the development of future therapies and pharmacological treatments. My experience in academia thus far has allowed me to take part in basic science projects related to this long-term goal. As a Master student in Dr. Scimemi’s lab at SUNY Albany, I have been able to perform hundreds of stereotaxic surgeries to deliver AAV constructs to the mouse hippocampus and striatum. I am skilled with performing trans-cardial perfusions, acute brain slice preparation and electrophysiology patch-clamp recordings (voltage-clamp). Along with the technical training that I have received in Dr. Scimemi’s lab, I have also gained experience in public speaking and critical literature review. I have presented regularly at our journal clubs, and discussed my data through posters presented at local SfN Chapter and regional NEURON meetings (Connecticut). My current project focuses on understanding the effect of AAV-induced overproduction of Amyloid b1-42 (AB42) on glutamatergic synaptic currents in the mouse hippocampus.
