Summary

I have been working with animals in the Agricultural SAE Science program at E.O. Smith High School for the past 1 1/2 years. I have also been volunteering with cats at the Our Companions Animal Rescue & Sanctuary since January 2, 2023. I have many skills in animal care, including feeding, socialization, and cleaning. I am looking to continue to develop my skills in a more professional setting with opportunities to build on my experience.

Work History

Cat Volunteer

Our Companions Animal Rescue & Sanctuary
2023.01 - Current

I have been meeting with approximately 3-8 cats 1-2 times a week to provide enrichment, playtime, and a clean & safe environment. The ultimate goal is to care for and socialize the cats in an effort to get them adopted. Duties include:

· Signing up for shifts each week online.

· Always use the code to get into the buildings & check the assigned cats to you on the whiteboard at the entrance once inside. You can always see more cats than you are assigned to (typically do this).

· Reading cat information sheets inside/outside each cat's room to see if they require special needs or rules, as well as to know more about them.

· Check each cat's level before entering their room; some cats are restricted.

· Meeting each cat where they are at; some like to cuddle, be patted, or brushed, while others like to play, and some may will hide on you until they earn trust over time (or never). Sometimes your visit may just be about being physically present for some cats.

· Scooping litter boxes and disposing of the waste.

· Filling out a Cat Watch sheet for each visit. It is important that you name every cat you visit and what they looked like. If you are concerned about their medical well being, it is important to document/report this right away.
