General Overview
  
This position provides communications support for LCRA's general manager, executives and board of directors, ensuring all communication materials going to or coming from the general manager and board are clear and support LCRA's strategic business goals and mission. Excellent copy editing skills, attention to detail and knowledge of Associated Press style are key in this role.

We have one opening and will fill it at level I, II or senior. The description below reflects the senior-level position. Candidates may be considered for level I, II or senior depending on qualifications.
  
At a senior level, produces communications, such as news releases, feature stories, visual graphics, Web pages, photographs, etc. to be used in strategic communications, marketing and public outreach campaigns. Provides expert advice to management in the development of communications policy that contributes to the overall goal of telling LCRA's story and marketing LCRA's services to the public, elected officials, water utility and wholesale power customers and other users of LCRA's services. Provides advanced leadership to staff and management on communications strategies and best practices. This position utilizes in-depth knowledge of best practices and experience in own discipline to provide and improve services. Takes a new perspective to solve complex problems. Works independently and receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May direct the work of other staff members.

* Identifies needs and manages, evaluates and creates written, visual or internet-based communications products, Produces high-quality communications products such as news releases, graphics, photos, Web pages, etc. on deadline.
* Interprets communications requirements and translates them into actionable policies, processes and procedures.
* Identifies and contributes to strategies for communications. Contributes to development of communications policy at the corporate level.
* Identifies key communications issues and challenges and proposes solutions.
* Edits and reviews communications to ensure quality and consistency with LCRA's message and marketing and outreach goals.
* Researches issues and facts for use in communications projects and as a basis for development of communications policy.
* Leads communications and cross-functional teams to develop strategic communications strategy and makes team assignments. Produces high-quality results on deadline.
* Participates in cross-training activities, cross-departmental sharing of knowledge and, when appropriate, cross-departmental developmental assignments. Shares knowledge and expertise with others, developing a pipeline of possible successors. Learns from others in different roles and different departments to expand knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications
  
Specialist I

* Four or more years of experience in corporate communications, journalism or public relations. 
* A degree(s) in communications, journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, graphic design, photography, digital photo and imaging or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience. 
  
Specialist II 

* Six or more years of experience in corporate communications, journalism or public relations. 
* A degree(s) in communications, journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, graphic design, photography, digital photo and imaging or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  
Senior 

* Nine or more years of experience in corporate communications, journalism or public relations.
* A degree(s) in communications, journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, graphic design, photography, digital photo and imaging or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
