  • Initially, I reviewed the literature and the work already done on CRISPR systems in Wolbachia in efforts to treat sicknesses the predominantly affect tropical regions and Africa such as River Blindness.
  • For about 4 weeks I analyzed 23 genomes of Wolbachia using computational tools where 9 showed evidence of 51 putative CRISPR arrays
  • I prepared a poster presentation and presented itthis summer at the University of Maryland Summer Research Conference as the only high school student.

  • 50 plus students attended our competitions in April, where lunch and venue were provided.
  • Hosted an in-person biology team-based biology competition through a 501 (c)(3) non-profit to encourage others to pursue biology as a study and career

  • ISPEED is an all expense paid biomedical engineering exposure program
  • On the Homewood Campus, under the direction of Dr.Jessica Dunleavey, I had the chance to work in a wet lab setting where alongside an amazing group of lab members we induced ischemic stroke on astrocyte cells and GFP-stained cells to analyze their morphology
  • This was my first time in a wet lab setting and I enjoyed the collaboration that came along with working with other individuals conducting research
  • With Dr.Kwame Kutten we worked on analyzing genomics information with a machine learning tool in Python
  • By the end of the program, we were able to present our work at a Hopkins BME ISPEED poster presentation session.
