Rachel Mburu

Politically and socially engaged since high school, with a driven interest in politics and experience in political volunteering, organizing, and public speaking at events. Worked with spreadsheets to create and establish points of contact for state representatives and senators. Utilized social media to promote event and raise awareness for social and cultural events. Collaborated with different organizations and the community to engage community members and increase awareness.

• Received an invitation to speak at Rutland Lions Club Meeting; speech in regards to systemic racism (February 2022)
• Featured in local newspaper for advancing in local speech competition (February 2022)

Presenter and Creator of Middle School Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Program

• Local initiative visiting multiple middle schools within the district as a leader of the Diversity Inclusion Group to host after-school seminars on conversions of JEDI principles. (February 2023- May 2024)
• Organized an intimate Open Mic Night through Diversity Inclusion Group hosting different students from residing schools to speak to culture and identity. (December 2023)
• Attended and presented at JEDI conference at Sutton Connections Conference MA. (March 2024)

Domestic Violence Prevention Campaign (January 2023 - February 2024)

• School-based initiative involving collaborative research on domestic violence in regards to abusive high school relationships and distributing pamphlets to raise awareness and prevention.

Political Engagement

• Volunteered at Massachusetts Democratic Convention. (September 2023)
• Picketed for Jonathan Zlotnik in Holden, MA during his race for State Senate. (October 2023)
• Organized lobbying efforts for bills relative to expanding menstrual product access and youth voter engagement through collaborative work under Executive Board E-Board of Massachusetts HSDA (September 2023- March 2024)
