Working as a volunteer student athletic trainer I learned the basics of patient care and advocacy. I learned basic wound care and bracing skills. I learned not to let mistakes ruin your confidence, and to take criticism in stride. I learned the value of effective and consistent patient care. Most of all, I learned that I can make people's day better by being there for them in times of need, even if all I could offer was a little emotional support.
In short, working as a student trainer taught me how to help my community. More specifically help those who may be having their worst day.
