  • When I started with VP Landscaping, I was mainly weedeating, blowing grass, and leaves. I wanted to run the mowers, so my boss let me see what all I could do. He saw that I knew what I was doing, so eventually, we would all take turns on different yards, with different tasks. In the winter, we would trim shrubs and plants to preserve them for the winter, so they would be healthy come spring and summertime in the upcoming year.

  • I started out hosting and seating people, as I cleaned tables throughout the night. I wanted to learn how to grill, help and cook, so I asked if I could learn. I eventually started to learn, but in the process of grill helping, I cleaned tables, mopped floors, ran for the grills, and pushed orders out of the kitchen for tables. When there was an opening on the grill, I started to grill full-time, but I was still cleaning and mopping for waiters and waitresses when I got the opportunity. I have helped with grilling for about 2-3 years, and I will come back and work when they need help for holidays or an expected busy weekend.

  • I started out threading pipe for the company. I did that for a couple of months, but I wanted to learn how to weld. I talked to my boss, and he didn't have a problem if I came in early or stayed after off the clock to learn and try it. I eventually started welding and threading pipe. I threaded pipe on the machines as my brother welded on it. They gained trust in my welding ability, so they moved me to welding frames for our machines. I was eventually a full-time frame welder, having to build the frames, make them square, make sure they didn't butterfly, and fabricate materials if needed to go onto the frames.
