Stories

Story 1 - While in charge of dock, I was able to push out and finish all 4k left of our volume on dock within 20 minutes after falling behind due to WIP being to high (37WIP) and the cut-off time being 8:00 am.

  • Situation- Stow floor began to struggle to keep up work flow and fell behind producing 37minutes of WIP. This would result in having to slow down induct flow on dock, therefore not being able to push out all the volume planned that work day (adding more work to tomorrows volume), or having to ADHOC the remaining volume.
  • Task- I assigned myself with the task of trying to salvage the slow down on dock. Ensuring the induct lines were pre-loaded up with volume so when we get notified to increase flow, the dock crew would be ready. I went ahead and sent all waterspiders, 1 inducter and 1 unloader to the stow floor to help bring up work flow and to match our increasing induct flow.
  • Action- I increased our chances of success by utilizing my downtime efficiently and communicating with my stow/dock team (AM and PA) what the moves were going to be, hoping they would be able to handle flow with extra associates.
  • Result- As a result, we were able to process all the remaining 4k volume on dock efficiently and continuously (without belt stops), finishing exactly at 8 am cutoff time, and achieve our sort metrics (99.85% scan compliance and 89.07% stow WIP compliance).

Story 2 - While in charge of the stow floor, stow associates were beginning to decrease their work flow (7.2k stow flow) due to a high cube size (0.43) while induct flow was increasing at a rapid pace (11.8k induct flow). Dock needed to flow high in order to finish all volume planned that day. I utilized support from Sub-Same Day.

  • Situation- The situation was that the stow floor associates were starting to struggle with big boxes (0.43) coming down the belt and and a rapid increase in induct flow surpassing 11.8k work flow.
  • Task- I came up with the idea of utilizing the associates who came in for sub-same day, to help support stow floor with stowing down as any boxes as they could.
  • Action- I placed certain associates with the strongest work ethics to help and stow down aisles while the other associates helped stow down the non-cons/larger boxes.
  • Result- This resulted in helping dock push out the remaining volume and being able to maintain a steady flow. Placing veterans into the aisles helping stow down brought up stow floor flow, therefore dock can push out as fast as they can. Ending induct time at 8:10 am exactly with 22 minutes of WIP. Giving an easy hand off to the pick and stage AM and PA.

Story 3 - While Line leading on H/J ADTA, with our own work volume already coming down the belts, sub-same day volume began to start causing problems coming down the belt and overwhelm the straightener and stowers with unnecessary packages. Ending up with wrong labeled packages in their hampers and filling up the H/J jackpot with overflow rapidly.

  • Situation- With the induct flow reaching 9k, sub-same day volume started coming down the main belts heading towards H/J. The big boxes we were already pushing and volume coming down mixed with sub-same day packages caused the straighteners to feel overwhelmed. They are trained to not pull off sub-same day volume but it being mixed with ours made it difficult.
  • Task- My goal was to minimize the amount of packages coming to jackpot/going into the wrong hampers without stopping sub-same day from sending volume down the belt.
  • Action- I utilized the proper headcount and switched my jackpot helper to support my straightener, minimizing the overflow coming down and packages going to the proper stow areas. While i handled jackpot, i separated the sub-same day packages from our cycle 1 volume, which made it easier to stow dow and start sub-same day pick faster and more efficient.
  • Result- My action resulted in an easier workflow, allowing for an easier stow down. The extra straightener allowed for the ADTAs to scan packages efficiently and to be sorted to the proper areas, which led to sub-same day being completed quicker. Making rotations and calls helped the AMs understand what exactly would be happening, so we can keep track or who is helping.

Story 4 - As a Learning Ambassador, I was in charge of onboarding a class of 10 people when our Learning Trainer wasn't present that day and prepping them to be ready to stow and pick whenever they pick up shifts.

  • Situation- Learning Trainer didn't show up to provide and support the class training to our new associates. I was left to assign and give hands on training to the associates.
  • Task- I tasked myself to assign the training modules to the associates and keep track of each individuals progress. Having to assist each individual with the course or wherever they were stuck on.
  • Action- Using umbrella/checking transcripts, I was able to see who needed the most support and coaching when the hands-on portion came to be.
  • Result- Each associate at the end was able to understand the basic safety precautions and comfortably begin to hop into any path they were trained in (ADTA Stow, Stow, pick to buffer, Push, Straightener, and Non-con)
