Planting a small garden every year for the last 11 years. Working in the garden and yard with my children has been one of my favorite memory making experiences. Children get so excited when they see the seeds they have planted in dirt sprout. When that plant makes something they can eat there is nothing short of amazement in their eyes.  My children have willingly helped me in the garden year after year. This year we make jam from grapes and strawberries and pear butter from a neighbors pear tree. They were so thrilled to see the outcome of all that hard work, patience and care in tasty little jars that we get to enjoy all through out winter. Even if they do not grow up to have a garden of their own one day, I know they will go on to have a healthy understanding of where their food comes from and how it has made its way to their plate.
