My educational background and my extensive work history has prepared me to be part of a team that takes this organization to the next generation in a better and stronger position than it has ever been.
Working closely under the Artistic Director's guidance I create a curriculum to teach dance technique and historical significance of each traditional dance. I have consistently taught using various methodologies and dance styles from beginner to advanced levels. I communicate and collaborate with my Artistic Director to pick the region and songs for performance. I communicate and collaborate with the costume manager to assure my region choice has appropriate costumes that will fit my classes while maintaining attention to confidential matters requiring discretion. I sequence dance steps and counts guided by students’ dance level and stay within the correct historically accepted traditional steps. Students range in age from 5 to 50+ years old. I design each lesson based on the skill level and age of the students. I work closely with the Artistic director and Costume Manager to produce high quality productions with the School of Dance students. I coordinate extra rehearsals with my students and with the needs of the other instructors and the rest of the company. I teach teamwork, physical strength and mental stamina to a range of students. I connect, inspire and motivate students to reach their goals. I teach the performance makeup needed for performances. I disseminate information from the Artistic Director and Board of Directors to a diverse group of parents and students. I assist in fundraising by gathering donations and encouraging parents and students to participate. I assist in organizing the Cast list and Awards List for my students used in performance programs. To be a folklorico instructor at a non-profit requires strong multitasking skills, ability to exercise sound judgment while dancing in heels and a consistent use of initiative and independent judgment to safeguard the non-profit and to bring out the best performance of each student.
