Reem Usmani

Strongsville,Ohio

Summary

Reem loves helping people. Whether that is by donating old clothing to a thrift store, passing out candy to kids during the holidays, or volunteering to serve food to people at a hospital, the fact that life has now been made a little better makes it all worth it.

Everybody deserves a safe and enjoyable life. It sometimes feels rather hopeless living in today's world. The endless reports on police brutality, abusive parents, and the rapes and subsequent murder of innocent women and girls are just some of the constant injustices that are occurring all the time.

Reem's goal is to go from someone who is an avid but naive volunteer, to a social worker, who aids in working with children who have been severely abused in order to rehabilitate them to live a happier healthier life.

A hardworking and passionate job seeker with strong organizational skills eager to secure an entry-level Social Worker 1 position. Ready to help the team achieve company goals.

Work History

Youth Care Specialist

OhioGuidestone
07.2022 - 05.2023
  • Completed clear and concise documentation of youth behavior and actions, as well as a point system that kept clients in the know of how well they were doing in the program. The more points a client had generally allowed them more privileges (using the Nintendo Switch, etc.). The more points a client had also meant the client was actively progressing through the different levels (up to level 4). Usually the higher up a client went, the more likely it was for them to discharge.
  • Assisted youth with serving meals, making sure they all did hygiene and followed a set routine whether during school months or during summer.
  • Aided with crisis intervention by redirecting negative behaviors; often having to step in to break up fights with other clients.
  • Utilized system model to teach youth life skills such as making sure they complete chores, (taking out trash, wash dishes, sweep, vacuum, etc.) ask before using the restroom, make their days (by being respectful to the other clients and staff).

Intern

Sat in on client-therapist sessions, and occasionally took notes during sessions. Would go through a debrief session a therapist would debrief with me, and let me look over her file-keeping system. During this time I toured different subsections that were after with therapist would debrief with me, and let me look over her file-keeping system. During this time I toured different subsections that were a part of LMM such as the men's shelter and the youth shelter. During my time I proposed a recycling initiative for one of the shelters.

Receptionist/ Conference Service Staff Member

Conference Services, Cleveland State University
08.2017 - 03.2020
  • One of my main responsibilities was to greet students, faculty, and guests entering the Student Center at Cleveland State University, assisting them with where different buildings were, where they could find classrooms, and where they could find various events on campus.
  • Another responsibility I had was to organize lost/found items that students or faculty would turn in to the front desk. I had to log in the details of whatever the item was, then place it in the back room.
  • I also managed phone calls incoming to the campus. Since this was Conference Services, a lot of the calls coming in were about requesting to book a room, seeing what room is available, etc. Some other calls were also students telling me that the pepsi machine ate their money and they did not receive their drink; I was instructed to tell them they would receive a refund from the Campus 4-1-1.
  • Some more responsibilities included, filling out room availability forms from prospective customers, filing posters, stamping dates on posters, and hanging up posters all around the university. I would also check the different college boards for illegal posters, and scanning room requests.
  • Some misc. duties included, organizing and sorting out mail for Conference Services and other student/ department groups, checking to see when and which student group are assigned to be on the student center interlink, going on errands (giving mail to someone in another building).

Note taker

Cleveland State University
08.2019 - 12.2019
  • For the fall semester of the 2019-2020 school year, I took notes for a student in my abnormal psychology class who could not take notes themselves.
  • I took regular notes, would usually rewrite them in order for the notes be neat and easy for the student to follow. I also numbered the pages of the notes; after rewriting the notes, I would scan them via an app from my phone an would upload them promptly to the appropriate person.
  • In addition to rewriting the notes, I would make it a point to highlight, add color, and bold words, to make it easier and more fun for the student.

  • Managed outgoing calls for Ruffalo Noel Levitz, as a student fundraiser based in Cleveland.
