OR RN. Set up OR for surgery, ensuring that all equipment needed is in position and in working order. Interview patient, verifying allergies and medications. Ensure that surgeon has marked patient on correct operating side, verifying surgery consent form and patient history and physical are correct and signed by surgeon.

Answer any questions the patient or family may have about the procedure. Transport patient to the OR and administer preoperative antibiotics. Transfer and position patient to and on OR table safely according to surgeon preference and assist CRNA during sedation and intubation. Ensure that scrub tech, surgeon and CRNA have all supplies needed before and during procedure. Count instruments with scrub tech as needed and ensuring correct count. Prep patient and maintain sterile field during surgery. Maintain patient and staff safety during procedure. Administer any intraoperative medications needed, communicate with patient family during surgery, collect any specimens and deliver to pathology. Assist CRNA in extubation of patient and transport patient to PACU. Recover patient, monitoring vital signs, assessing for pain and/or nausea and giving meds as prescribed to alleviate those side effects. Wean patient from oxygen while monitoring oxygen saturation, keep patient comfortable while maintaining patient safety, assess operative sights, dressings, drains and/or catheters placed intraoperatively, measure patient intake and output, and communicate all findings to surgeon. Transfer patient to the floor or outpatient unit and communicate my findings during bedside handoff with receiving nurse.
