  • The Research Associate Crew Supervisor for Great Basin Institute manages the crew, coordinates and works in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management’s Sage-Grouse Habitat Assessment Framework (HAF) and national Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring (AIM) strategy, which is targeted at collecting standardized inventory and long-term ecological data at multiple scales across western public lands and implement the BLM Habitat Assessment Framework (HAF) protocols, for Range health, habitat assessment, vegetation population, soil surveys.
  • Supervising of the field crew, facilitating communication among the field crew, GBI coordinators, contacts related to safety, travel, priorities, and field challenges; organizing the schedule; assisting BLM and GBI resource staff with the logistics of field sampling; using a Web Application and GIS to identify field sampling locations and generate field-ready maps; and cleaning and uploading monitoring data into the BLM DIMA data system.
  • Supported the primary year of monitoring of fora and soils studies, and activities to ensure program quality, effectiveness, and technical adequacy.

  • Developed and implemented three year project, designing methodology, implementing and analyzing wetland and river basin population surveys to create a pre-restoration baseline for later comparison to surveys that will take place during and after restoration efforts of the federally designated “Wild and Scenic” Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River, evaluating the hydrological and salinity impacts in a partnership with Loxahatchee River District (LRD), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD).
  • Performing all research duties in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducted extensive field work including habitat assessment, population surveys, species inventory.
  • Ecological field surveys for reptiles, mammals, avian and amphibians and technical report documentation (Data management, Analyzed and archived survey and monitored data from GIS (Geographic Information Systems), data collection design documentation and yearly reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Adobe).
  • These surveys included threatened and endangered species e.g. Florida Scrub Jay, Gopher Tortoises, Florida Gopher Frog, Florida Mouse, Cotton Mouse, etc.
  • Surveying by foot, skiff, kayak, 4x4 vehicles.
  • Ecological field surveys included large/small mammal traps, game cameras, Electro-fisher, water quality meters (water quality well surveys and river water quality surveys) auditory/visual methodology and maintenance of all survey equipment.
  • Assist in multi-phase river floodplain vegetation surveys and the propagation of listed species.
  • Working independently in challenging areas including -swamp, tidal river, mangrove, cypress dome and upland wetlands in all weather during both the day and night.
  • Operated YSI to collect water chemistry data (temperature, pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen).
  • Training and management of volunteers including screening potential interns.
  • Teaching stewardship and conservation of Florida’s ecosystems and teaching macro-invertebrate identification and wildlife of Florida to general public.
