Sergeants duties are:

  • Interpreted laws, regulations, policies and procedures to subordinates.
  • Evaluated the performance of assigned personnel through observation, review of reports and other methods. To handle citizen complaints, to send correspondences to the district commander, deputy chiefs or superintendent of police. Monitor Police Officers in the field and respond to all call for a ranking officer needed on a scene.
  • Managed administrative needs of the platoon, including recordkeeping, payroll entries and handling of complaints.
  • Responded quickly to calls, questions and complaints from citizens to help in various situations.
  • Conduct roll call, daily meetings to discuss current status of the district, issues and relay all correspondences to and from the district and head quarters. Assign the officers to their designated patrol areas and unit numbers.
  • Collect all incident reports, summonses, citations, review for accuracy, correctness, return any for corrections and submit approved reports.
  • Ensured that all personnel meet department standards for performance and conduct.
  • Coordinated investigations into major crimes or incidents within their jurisdiction, to contact the needed support units, homicide, crime lab, SWAT team and any other support units as needed.
  • Provided training to officers on applicable state laws, local ordinances and departmental policies and procedures.
