Summary

My work and educational experience has prepared me for a whole host of roles involving education and training of others. I have had success in the areas of driving and insurance due in part to my ability to relate well with a wide variety of personality types. I have received promotions that involved increasing levels of responsibility and earnings potential. I have demonstrated good technical skills as well as the ability to organize my activities so that I could achieve ambitious goals. I was almost continuously involved in continuing my education, receiving the professional designation of CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter), and ARM (Associate in Risk Management). I have also been able to operate with minimal supervision at a remote location. I feel well qualified to instruct individuals who want to learn all the varied aspects of truck driving, not just driving the truck. The job is much more than just driving.

Tender Truck/Tanker Driver

  • In this position I drove either a fertilizer tender truck, or a tanker truck (semi) during the Coops planting and spraying season. This was a seasonal position. The job involved loading granular fertilizer at the plant in New Richmond and delivering it to a field location where the fertilizer was augured into a spreader for application to the field. After fertilizer season I drove a tanker truck which supplied water to a spray vehicle at a field location. During fertilizer season I also was responsible of selecting certain bagged fertilizers that were added to the granular (BULK) fertilizer at the field location. When I was driving the tanker truck, I refilled the 4500 gal tank when needed, and also selected specific liquid in 2.5 gal bottles that would be added to the water in the sprayer.

  • This was a seasonal driving position with a different employer. I was virtually identical to the job I had at Alcivia in 2022. I did not work in 2021 due to shoulder surgery I had on my left shoulder.

  • During this period I drove OTR as a company driver, Owner/Operator either leased to another carrier or under my own authority. I operated throughout the lower 48 states and in Canada. I hauled freight in Vans, Reefers, and flat beds. I also did inter-modal work during this time under my own authority. While operating my own equipment I was responsible for all the required reports (IFTA IRP) as well as periodic inspections required by my state or the federal government. I was in charge of all the maintenance work done on the vehicles and I did some of that work myself. I know how to reline the brakes on a class 8 tractor. I also had responsibility for procuring my freight business and I had relationships with about 6 national brokers as well as several smaller local firms. I also arranged loads using several load boards on the internet. I was able to stay busy.

  • While at Nationwide I called on Cooperate Farm Supply accounts and Farm Marketing accounts in the Western USA. These included large agribusiness firms like Sunkist Growers, Sun Diamond growers, Farmland Industries, Cenex, and Associated Milk producers for property and casualty lines of insurance. I operated as a producer for the company and received a salary plus commission on new business produced. My book of business was upwards of $5,000,000 of premium. My job also involved relationship management and corporate governance in that the Nationwide Board of Directors came from the large regional cooperative we insured. These included my customers. The individuals who agreed to serve on our board had to first be impressed by their Account Executive. I had great success in this position. I only left the position when the company reorganized and turned the large commercial underwriting operation to a subsidiary (Wausau) in and I was going to be forced to relocate.

These were the local cooperatives who were members of the larger coops like Cenex and Land-O-Lakes. In this job I covered 3 states and solicited local coop members of Cenex and Land-O-Lakes and other non-affiliated local coops.
