- This externship gave me exposure to deal with Cardiac patients, under supervision of Dr Amin H Karim, MD, especially patients with Hypertension, Congestive heart failure,Atrial fibrillation, Cardiomyopathy. I got a chance to perform Electrocardiogram (ECG) on patients by myself.
-This externship gave me an opportunity to work under the supervision of board-certified Internal medicine physician and nephrologist Dr Ankineedu Prasad, MD. I got to learn how to work as a primary care physician and treat patients with general health diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Chronic Kidney Disease. - Screening and detection of early cancer like prostate, renal, breast cancer.
- I learned a lot about Addiction Medicine, which was completely new. They gave us access to EMR. I saw patients with diabetes, hypertension, heroin addiction, and saw how to treat withdrawal symptoms of heroin addiction.We treated and counseled patients with long term addiction, we counselled them to quit alcohol/ smoking/ drugs. We sent them to a rehab centre. We followed-up with them, talked to them about their mental health and counselled them and their families.
- 04-week rotation gave me opportunity to observe patients in Cardiology, presented the case to attending physician and saw patients. I saw patients of Atrial Fibrillation, MI, Angina, and ischaemic heart diseases.
-This 7-week rotation gave me the opportunity to take history and examine primary care patients under supervision of Dr Jayantilal Bhimani MD.
-This 5-weeks rotation gave me the opportunity to see many Endocrine patients with thyroid and parathyroid disease, Diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovarian syndrome, adrenal, and pituitary diseases under Dr Lubna Mirza, MD. I saw rare cases like Kallmann syndrome as well.
-This rotation gave me the opportunity to observe patients in the Pulmonary department of LSU under supervision of Dr Ali Juzar, MD.Took history and examined TB patients in Wetmore TB clinic, New Orleans. -Made a case report on Clofazimine trial in treatment of NTM patients
- 04-week rotation gave me the opportunity to observe patients in the Cardiology department of UNMC.I presented the case to the attending physician and saw patients with the residents. I saw patients of Atrial Fibrillation, MI, Angina, CABG, and many other cardiac diseases.
-This rotation gave me exposure to the US healthcare system, and I saw patients of Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Angina, Musculoskeletal diseases, Thyroid problems. Learn how to use our electronic medical records system.
