  • Conducted complex hematological analyses using advanced laboratory equipment and protocols. This includes CBC interpretation and smear review, routine coagulation testing, body fluid analysis, blood parasite and tick borne illness analysis, ESRs and mono screens,and bone marrow sample collection at the bedside.

  • Performed HLA typing for bone marrow, kidney and heart transplant patients and donors using the Luminex platform.
  • Received unrelated stem cell donor blood from around the world (predominantly US and Germany) to confirm HLA typing and ensure recipient/donor identical match, or to confirm a mismatch.
  • Received and typed siblings of leukemia patients to hopefully find an exact match within the family.
  • Performed Panel Reactive Antibody testing quarterly on kidney and heart waitlist patients to monitor new HLA antibody development.
  • Completed requests for expedited typing for the bone marrow/stem cell transplant team due to patient needs.
  • Performed rotational after hours on-call for the Trillium Gift of Life Network for deceased organ donation. This included stat HLA typing and data entry into TGLN as well as stat crossmatching of donor T and B cells to recipient fresh serum to ensure no new HLA antibodies.
  • Performed external and internal quality control programs. Our lab was ASHI accredited which not all HLA labs are.
  • Performed equipment maintenance and quality control to ensure accurate results
