At Public Service of Colorado (PSCO) I managed twenty six individuals, eighteen of them we on 12 hour rotating shifts. We operated the bulk power grid for three quarters of the state of colorado. This was operating voltages from 345kv to 44kv, scheduled isolation of equipment and emergency isolation of equipment. The Balancing Authority desk ensured that there was enough energy to meet the electric demand. I managed an assistant manager, trainer, tariff administrator, internees, energy accountant and two outage coordination electrical engineers who provided studies for the next day to identify any overload conditions based on weather and equipment out of service and equipment scheduled out of service.
At Norther States Power (NSP) and Northern States Power Wisconsin (NSPW) At NSP I managed eighteen 12 hour rotating shift operators, one energy accountant and one outage coordination. At NPSW I managed six union 12 hour rotating shift operator and an assistant manager. NSP was responsible for parts of ND, MN, SD, and IA. NSPW was responsible for Western WI and northwestern MI.
In March of 2003 after the devastating power outage to the East Coast of the US, I went to work for the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) in Carmel IN. I was the first shift manager hired after the power outage, my duties were to supervise more that thirty 12 hour rotating shift operators in Carmel IN and six in St Paul MN. Our duties were to identify overloads on the Bulk Electric System (BES) due to current conditions and planned maintenance. We monitored and suggested reconfiguration of the BES for Saskatchewan Canada, Manitoba Canada, from Minnesota to Nebraska, to Tennessee, to Michigan, to Illinois, to Wisconsin and all states inbetween. We coordinated with the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), Pennsylvania- New Jersey, Maryland (PJM) independent system operators, and Southwest Public Service Provider (SPP). This coordination was to ensure reliable operation of the BES for over half the US.
In 2007 I returned to NSP (Xcel energy) as a system operator. In August of 2001 I was promoted to the position of Director of power marketing for the NSP region. My staff or eight 12 hour rotating shift operators bought and sold electric energy with Canada and the Eastern US.
In 1989 I stated working for NSPW in Eau Claire WI as a system operator, in 1991 in moved to Sioux Falls SD (NSP) to open and coordinated distribution center that handled the distribution system for ND, MN, and SD. In 1992 I moved to Minneapolis to the become a system operator for the NSP system. We operated the BES in ND, SD, MN, bought and sold electricity with Canada and the Eastern US.
In late 1982 I went to work for Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) at their Coyote lignite power plant in Beulah ND as a operator Trainee. In 1984 I was promoted to a system operator at their control Center in Bismark ND.
In 1978 I joined the United States Air Force (USAF) and was stationed in Minot ND.

USEA sent me to India four times, Senegal Africa, Medenine Columbia, Thailand, Nairobi Africa twice to give lectures on integration of wind into the BES. I served on many National Electric Reliability Council (NERC) drafting standards for the BES after the North East blackout for utilities in Canada, the US and Northern Mexico. I lead the Satem Operator review team on over twenty peer reviews of utilities in the US and Canada with the North American Transmission Forum (NATF)
