Air Force Commendation Medal: Staff Sergeant Ryan L. Balding distinguished himself by meritorious service as Shift Supervisor, 15th Operational Weather Squadron. During this period, Sergeant Balding provided superior support to 153 Department of Defense installations, enabling warfighters to achieve multi-domain decision superiority from operational to tactical levels. His leadership and delivery of environmental intelligence was key to the protection of 490,000 personnel and assets valued at 226 billion dollars. Specifically, he utilized his exceptional technical and supervisory skills in guiding a four-airmen team in the production of 720 global aviation forecasts supporting 11 Combatant Commands. Additionally, Sergeant Balding deployed 150 days in direct support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, where he crafted 184 forecasts, enabling the safe execution of over 6,400 flight hours. Furthermore, Sergeant Balding assumed the deployed duties of Flight Chief for two weeks, where he single handedly managed deployed weather operations during a unplanned thirty-three percent cut in manning. Finally, his exemplary performance resulted in his selection as the 2019 15th Operational Weather Squadron Airman of the Year. The distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant Balding while serving his country reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
