• Acquires pertinent history from patient, family, or medical records

• Reports equipment failures and potential problems related to the efficient operation of the department

• Interacts on a daily basis with referring physicians in determining patient and examination requirements

• Monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilators, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen, and humidity devices
• Assesses patients and diagnostic data in order to adjust ventilator and PAP settings per protocol
• Assesses and evaluates patient respiratory care in consultation with physicians, nurses and other health care personnel
• Possesses adept clinical skill in manipulating ventilators and PAP therapy equipment
• Troubleshoots basic ventilator and PAP therapy equipment
• Scores clinical events ( such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousal etc.) according to protocols
• Maintains all equipment in good working order, including oversight of all repairs and scheduled preventive maintenance
• Collaborates with team members to formulate plans to identify patient problems and desired outcomes
• Evaluates patient progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions

• Responsible for performing Nerve Conduction Studies in an EMG lab according to the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) and the Clinical Neurophysiology Lab standards

• Assisting and collaborating with surgeon and neurologist in bringing the best optimal outcome for patients during spine or craniotomy surgery
• Working with complex monitoring techniques and accommodates modalities to patient needs

EEG / Ambulatory

• Responsible for performing Routine EEGs on outpatient and inpatient populations with varying ages
• Perform Ambulatory Studies for outpatients which includes taking a detailed history, generating reports,
• Reviewing raw data, and processing studies through a Quantitative EEG software program
• Perform quality EEG studies to be submitted for ABRET EEG Accreditation according to the ACNS guidelines

ICU Video EEG

• Prepare critically ill patients for long term Video EEG monitoring and utilizing clinical judgment on patients in ICU setting.
• Maintain integrity of EEG equipment including MR/CT compatible leads.
• Review 24 hour blocks of raw EEG data, including use of trending software.
• Summarize and Archive raw EEG into permanent clipped files.
• Communicate with nursing staff and physicians regarding patients current status according to Live EEG tracings.

Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

• Prepare patients with standard 10-20 system for long term EEG while off of antiepileptic medication.
• Create montages for intracranial patients, accompanying and monitoring of ECOG procedures, Connecting and monitoring patients with invasive grids.
• Participate in conference case studies of LTM patients with residents, fellows, and attending physicians.
• Prepare and maintain supplies for Sphenoidal Electrode Placement including assisting physicians with procedure.
• Able to place additional 10-10 bi-temporal/bi-frontal and Sub-temporal International Electrode System.
• Summarize and Archive raw EEG into permanent clipped files.
• Monitoring patients with EEG during different types of procedures including Ictal Spect, PET, Tilt Table.
• WADA and Balloon Occlusion Testing.

Intraoperative Monitoring

• Utilizes the International 10–20 System of electrode placement.
• Accurately measures and marks the placement position for each electrode.
• Uses materials and techniques to assure optimal electrode site preparation while minimizing patient discomfort.
• Verifies appropriate impedance levels and corrects as indicated when impedance is high.
• Places lead wires from the patient to the head boxes and stimulator boxes out of the way of the surgical field and not tangled in anesthesia lines.
• Places simulator/head boxes so it's accessible during the case, can reach both the electrodes from the patient and the machine, and are safe from spills and safe.
• Communicates with the anesthesia team regarding the needs of the case to include/exclude paralytics, steady halogenated gases, TIVA for MEPs, etc.
• Communicates with the interpreting neurophysiologist regarding preoperative results, baseline results, surgical procedures, technical troubleshooting, changes to waves including real changes and artifacts as well as anesthetic effects to waveforms and surgical effects to waveforms.
• Discusses the patient's clinical baseline and postoperative clinical outcome. Discusses with the surgeon the patient's preoperative results, baselines.
• Documents patient history, induction agents, baseline vital statistics, monitoring personnel, critical monitoring times, critical surgical procedures, neurophysiological changes, surgical notifications and responses, and anesthetic changes.
