1. Participate in construction, maintenance, operation, and repair of the District’s water distribution system; perform a variety of water facilities maintenance work including: main line repair; service line installation, replacement, and valve installation, replacement, and repair, fire hydrant installation, replacement, and repair; water main line flushing; pipe cutting; line tapping; water meter installation, replacement, repair; main line and hydrant flushing, and angle stops, ball valves, and various size meter box installations.
2. Operate a variety of equipment and tools including backhoes, front loaders, forklifts, skip loaders, dump trucks, service truck, jack hammers, pavement saws, cutting torches, compressors, compactors, pneumatic tools, pumps, and hand and power tools; loads and unloads vehicles and equipment.
3. Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles; performs safety checks and checks fluid levels of vehicles and equipment; clean assigned vehicles and equipment.
4. Sift and haul away spoil materials brought back from jobs in the district area. Pour and finish concrete; grade district dirt roads that lead to reservoirs, and other district facilities.
5. Set traffic control including safety devices, signs, and barricades; ensures safety of public and work crew.
6. Perform emergency repairs; respond to emergency calls at irregular hours. On call after hours for district emergencies. Will perform a full investigation of water leaks and determine the best solution. Call in crews when needed and provide information about emergency to district staff and cities being affected by emergency work. Send emails out to proper points of contact, keeping everyone in the loop of emergency situations.
7. Maintains work, time, and material records, and repairs service requests. Fill out NEXGEN work orders to track all costs for any given project. Write up service request to different departments for repairs or assistance. Example, service request for the fleet department to conduct maintenance on service trucks.
8. Perform a variety of other duties in support of department operations; cleans service yard; paints hydrants. Assist other departments as needed, example, collections department needing assistance to repair force and gravity mains.
9. Trained co-workers in obtaining their class A driver’s license.
10. Locate mainlines and services with electronic detectors.
