Computer lab instructor one full school year
Two months working one on one with a student in special education class, student in general education classroom. Listening to instruction for gen Ed class, assist my student in the hall working towards the instructions given for each assignment. Assisting student throughout entire day. Observing and teaching new lessons or reviewing. I was with this student for two months, went on maternity leave, my infant became ill and I could not return on my promise back date.
Special education department in kindergarten, visiting all kindergarten classes. Checking in on certain students, following each IEP for each student. Allowing extra breaks or getting extra one on one time in silent areas for better focus. Allowing frustrated students time to safely let out their anger and come back to a calm safe place once frustrating situation or emotion has passed.
Started on as an IA, quickly grew to Special Education department and worked one on one with student in sped classroom setting. Student was non-verbal autistic in kindergarten, violent, and at times burst out screaming. Assisted student in every daily task. Highly sensitive to sensory needs, not independently using toilet, some days couldn’t eat independently. After working very closely with student for two years, student became less violent to not violent at all, began using PECS to form own thoughts, wants, and needs. After some time student began speaking own words and communicating very well. Became a very happy student, one I will never forget.
