Currently serving as a night shift bedside nurse in a high acuity eighteen bed level 1 trauma and surgical intensive care unit. Provides immediate post-operative care for patients recovering from anesthesia and managing all levels of critical care patients including:

  • hemodynamic monitoring

CRNA Shadow Experience

Oishei Children's Hospital  Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, Buffalo, NY

Shadowed : Dr. Kellie Gorman, CRNA & Dr. Amy Cox, CRNA

Dates: March 2025-June 2025, 60 hours of direct CRNA shadow experience

Activities: 

- Observe the CRNA assess the patient and their past medical history to individualize each anesthesia plan

- Observing how the CRNA prepares the OR  prior to the case based on anticipation of what may happen such as medication preparation, dosage calculations and set up of equipment relevant for each specific case

- Observing the CRNA utilize therapeutic communication when interacting with the family and the patient, while being empathetic and reinforcing any teaching pertinent to the surgical procedure, and also maintaining patient confidentiality at all times

- Observing the induction of anesthesia and administering various types of airways such as mask ventilation, endotracheal tubes, laryngeal mask airways, nasopharyngeal airways and other advanced airways for complex airway management such as double lumen endotracheal tubes and fiberoptic bronchoscopes

- Observing the CRNA closely monitor and frequently assess vital signs, utilizing those as a tool to guide medication administration. 

- Observing the CRNA collaborate with many members of the interdisciplinary team in order to enhance quality of care and contribute to overall safer and more positive patient experience.
