Hardworking and dependable recent graduate (2023) with a passion for heping individuals with disabilities attain independence and teach advocation. My varied work experience has allowed me to strengthen skills in interpersonal communication and problem resolution, and my time volunteering has granted me insight to less prevalent issues and truths of individuals with disabilities. With my knowledge in communication sciences, I hope to apply treatment that not only corrects physical or mechanical issues, but also addresses behaviors that interfere with care.
Extracurriculars
- accompanied students with intellectual and learning disabilities to social events, meals, physical activities, and tutoring/ homework sessions
- engaged with UP students to improve their social, academic, and vocational skills to ensure future independence
- interacted with adults with varying disabilities and severities to provide social and recreational stimulation
- time spent with facility was done as part of a project focused on bringing more attention to the services provided by this group
- worked in conjunction with charitable organizations and facilities to provide resources and therapeutic recreation to certain populations in the community
- attended conferences to learn of new advancements and developments within our field
Volunteering
- split and delivered firewood to homes in the community that rely on wood-fire heating systems in the fall and winter
- assisted residents with menial labor tasks around the property for upkeep and garden maintenance
- volunteered my time during the Farm's annual Halloween Trunk-or-Treat to provide fun games and engagement for children with autism
- worked alongside Campus Recreation Center (CRC) staff to repair hazards and remove obstructions on the hiking/ biking trails surrounding the campus
