As a Chemotherapy certified Registered Nurse in the cancer center, I am responsible for caring for patients in the Oncology setting.
My responsibilities include:

• Ensuring patients have access to resources available to them during their cancer journey
• Advocating for patients and their families
• Understanding and comprehending a variety of cancer diagnoses
• Educating the patient and/or family about their cancer diagnoses, treatment plan, and expected outcomes
• Administering chemotherapy via IV, Port-a-cath, IM, or subcutaneous injections
• Working closely with the Oncology research team

• As an ONS Certified Oncology Infusion Nurse, I am responsible for providing care for Oncology patients in the clinic setting

Daily responsibilities include:

• Educating patients on their chemotherapy/immunotherapy regimen
• Informing patients about potential side effects/adverse effects of treatment
• Monitoring lab results
• Administering chemotherapy and monitoring for potential reactions
• Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team (ex. Oncologists, radiologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, etc.)
• Following up with patients post chemotherapy to monitor adverse effects,

As a Registered Nurse in a fast-paced, high acuity Med-Surg unit I am responsible for providing care to a variety of patients.

Skills include:

• Conducting thorough assessments and prioritizing patient care
• Initiating and maintaining IV access, performing complex wound care, monitoring various drainage devices, etc
• Collaborating and working closely with the medical and interdisciplinary teams to provide a holistic approach to patient care
• Having the knowledge to identify when a patient’s condition needs to be escalated for further evaluation
• Time management and the ability to critically think when working with a busy patient assignment
• Patient advocacy

• Obtaining vital signs accurately and in a timely manner as well as having the knowledge to report abnormal findings
• Charting correct input and output data while understanding how accurate monitoring and reporting affects the care of the patient
• Obtaining accurate blood glucose readings while following the correct accu-check procedure to reduce the patient’s risk for infection
• Performing routine safety checks to ensure each patients room was set up with the appropriate emergency equipment such as suction, oxygen, and ambu-bags.
