• Unit overview:D-4 is a 38 plus bed and D4 Nursery (max capacity 7) Medical/Surgical and Maternal/Child VIP Unit. It includes 2 step-down ICU beds and provides acute and long term care for Royal Family members, high ranking government personnel, foreign diplomats and other V.I.P’s of all ages within the Kingdom. Services include treatment for cardiovascular diseases, internal medicine, gastroenterology, nephrology, pulmonary medicine, endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, neurosciences, pediatrics, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, orthopedics, ante-natal non high risk, post-natal and newborn.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providing total, direct nursing care in accordance with the plan of care and needs of the patients with respect for the patient's privacy, dignity, personal preference and culture.
• Preparing administering, and documenting the administration of all prescribed medication by the physician, managing intravenous lines, observing and monitoring and recording patients' conditions, maintaining records and communicating with all healthcare providers.
• Maintaining knowledge of resources for therapeutic effects, usual dosages, contraindications, side effects and adverse reactions for all drugs and parental fluids administered.
• Maintaining accountability for narcotics and controlled drugs. Escalate any adverse events/reactions as per policy. Assess patient/family educational needs and readiness to learn utilizing appropriate resources.
• Assessing patient/family discharge planning needs utilizing appropriate resources.
• Performing an age specific, systematic and holistic initial assessment of the patient health status, and refer to appropriate specialty if necessary and as applicable.
• Documenting all assessments, interventions and other relevant information in the patients’ health care records on an ongoing basis.
• Collaboration with the patient/family and other members of the health care team to develop and update a plan of care that is consistent with the medical diagnosis and based on the patient's changing physical, psychosocial and age related requirements.
• Establishing realistic and measurable goals that are culturally sensitive, and identifies nursing interventions to achieve the goals.
• Evaluation on an ongoing basis the patient’s progress and the appropriateness of the plan of care involving the patient/family and other health team members, and update the plan as needed.
• Recognizing when patient care needs extend beyond the limits of provide quality of care that is evidence based by adhering to hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care, guidelines, policies and procedures.

• Attached to katriina Hospital ward 4 patients.The ward mainly specialises in the treatment of patients between 1-7 day's post surgical operation.The most common surgical patients in the ward are vascular disease surgical patients,amputation surgical patients,burn patients,cancer surgical patients (stoma patients),and pressure ulcers patients. in this ward we specialise in treatment of wounds with latest technology such as maggot therapy,negative wound pressure and bedside revision.In addition to wound care tratment, patients also receive specialised care for pre-exisitng,newly diagnosed or secondary conditions such as diabetes,asthma,kidney,liver and heart failure,COPD,alcoholism, different cancer diagnosis,active infections such as pneumonia,sepsis and covid -19,giving immunization vaccines(covid and flu) as well as drug abuse treatments. The average nurse patient ratio for the department is 1:5.

I am also actively involved in training student nurses and orienting new nurses into the ward and to the nursing profession. While in this ward I have been incharge of the resuscitation station and making sure that it is always in the right order and well equipped as well as incharge of the medicine room and ensuring that it is well mantained and medines are well stored in the right state.
