Work History

Social Service Worker

Valley Behavioral Health
Salt Lake City, UT
09.2020 - Current
  • Currently, I serve on the Community Treatment and Outreach Team at Valley Behavioral Health, where I work with a diverse caseload of individuals navigating complex challenges, including Severe Mental Illness, substance use, high rates of recidivism, and homelessness. My role as a Social Service Worker is multifaceted, as I provide individual counseling rooted in evidenced-based practices to foster emotional regulation and healthier behavioral patterns. Beyond clinical sessions, I facilitate mental health groups where I am able to cultivate a healthy peer-to-peer setting where clients are able to learn from each other in a structured environment with supportive guidance. My ultimate goal is to empower clients with the tools necessary for long-term recovery, stability, and successful reintegration into the community. Building on a professional background as a Social Service Worker, I am a recent Master of Social Work graduate prepared to apply advanced clinical theory and macro-level perspectives to high-acuity behavioral health settings as a Certified Social Worker.

Youth Residential Mentor

Gateway Academy
Draper, UT
05.2019 - 05.2020
  • As a youth mentor, I was responsible for supporting teenaged boys (ages 14-18) in their therapeutic process alongside a full team of other professional supports. As residential staff, we were specially trained in de-escalation techniques in addition to several therapeutic approaches that were used daily with the residents. While navigating a variety of mental health diagnoses, clients were also expected to complete their school while completing treatment. As such, mentors were also expected to aid, encourage, and help maintain their academic success.

Practicum Activities

  • Supportive Housing Case Manager, Housing Connect, Salt Lake City, Utah 05/2020-07/2020
  • Gire Pilipu, (801) 270-1331
  • As a case manager in a supportive housing complex, I worked directly with individuals and family residents to access needed resources and supports in the community. While some apartments were open to the qualifying public, Bud Bailey is a Project Based community focused on refugee populations and/or those at risk of or transitioning out of homelessness. As such, many of their needs were based on accessing food and clothing, maintaining their housing, gaining access to appropriate immigration and mental health supports in the community, etc..
  • Therapist (MSW) Practicum, Valley Behavioral Health, Salt Lake City, Utah, 08/2026-04/2026
  • Jose Gutierrez
  • During my clinical practicum, I served as a therapist on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, providing mobile, intensive support to individuals with severe mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. This role required a high degree of clinical flexibility and a deep commitment to the 'not-knowing' perspective, as I delivered therapy and crisis intervention in non-traditional community settings. By integrating a variety of evidence-based models, I supported clients in navigating the complex intersection of mental health recovery and chemical dependency. This experience solidified my ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver trauma-informed, client-centered care to the community's most vulnerable populations.
