Savneet Kaur

As a first-generation college graduate, I carry the experiences of my family and community with me. The obstacles I’ve overcome have taught me grit, compassion, and the importance of lifting others up along the way. Supporting students with backgrounds like mine helped me realize how meaningful it is to advocate for people who feel unseen or unsure of their place. That sense of connection and purpose is what drives me toward medicine, and I look forward to using my experiences to make a genuine difference in the lives of others.

• After 2 days of training, I completed the VOICES ( Violence Outreach Informing our Community with Educational Solutions) peer educator training where I was able to learn skills and knowledge to educate my university campus community on how to help and advocate for students going through crimes of sexual assault, dating,/domestic violence, and stalking. Throughout this experience I gained a thorough understanding of the legal and ethical issues surrounding sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as the many resources available to survivors. This allowed me to take an active role in advocating for the safety and well-being of my fellow students.
