During my 8 years of service, I proudly achieved the rank of AO2, Aviation Ordinanceman 2nd Class prior to discharge. Possibly my greatest achievement while on active duty was being awarded the Bronze Star and accompanying commendations for efforts made to save lives following a freak hurricane that hit the area of Tidewater Virginia in late 1998. Along with several fellow shipmates, we facilitated the organization of rescue efforts, collection of vital necessities for survivors after they've lost everything, and organizing food and clothing drives to aid victims of the tropical storm.
Ive since been Diagnosed with severe combat related PTSD and and rated by the VA as 70% service connected disability due to various encounters in various lands worldwide .
- I've attained the highest clearances one can attain in any branch of the military in order to perform all my duties seamlessly, including clearance levels Secret, Top Secret, and i held the compartmentalized Top Secret clearances basewide, fleet wide.
Basic duties included but were not limited do operation and maintenance of forklifts to stow and secure munitions across the various weapons magazines located on board both the USS NIMITZ CVN-68, and the USS HARRY S TRUMAN CVN-75 across my enlistment. - Attended to the ongoing, and ever changing and rotating inventory of all munitions in all the chipboard magazines, rectifying and bringing current this inventory for handover at shift changes.
- Managed the on-loading and off-loading of all series bombs, missiles, and all armament equipment for military aircraft.
- Conducted quality control activities, monitored equipment operations, and reported malfunctions to supervisors.
Interpreted maintenance manuals to service and repair damaged components effectively. - Performed routine inspections in compliance with military regulations.
- Maintained accurate inventory levels for non essential items and ordered new supplies as necessary.
More Specialized Duties include participation in evaluating new ordnance systems including facilitating training to various groups such as EOD on said weapons system's newly entering service in our military branches; the JDAM delivery system for instance.
- My duties were to educate and train relevant departments and personnel on its existence, instruction on its application to free fall Ordinance systems. The system consisted of a guidance array, and computer controlled 'fin' sections, from and after (tail) that when paired with a 'homing' laser from a ground based source, would guide the free fall ordinance to its target.
- Traveling to approved hot zones and often active warzones, to assessing collateral damages created by older munitions in the arsenal, testing for overall affectiveness, their rate of success on target while considering the devestation wrought upon the landscapes, homes, business and the peoples with a mind on the socioeconomical ability to recover.
- One culprit always on the chop, the CBU-87 Cluster Bomb Unit. Though highly affective at disabling airfields and wreaking havoc in disabling any facet of an enemy, theyre devestation carries far over inti a time when peace should be on the minds instead of worry if youll walk over an un-detonated bomblet from the hundreds that ejected out of its unit when the units used in a regioj could reach into the tens of thousands.
- No matter the fonditions i performef my job with due diligence always achieving success.
- I also held SAR certifications for diving, although I did not serve on the ships SAR cycle. It was a requirement for a career path I foresaw for myself if I were to reenlist for more service.
- Although im unable to officially claim responsibility for it, but the service-wide system of tool storage, maintenance, and the current system of check-in/-out as well as tool loaning throughout the departments on board a ship.... this was all my brainchild. i complained so much about tge current, budget-bleeding tool accountability system in my own department that within 2 weeks of me first runjing through my idea with my dept chief, i was nervously speaking of it in a meeting face to face with the Rear Admiral of the 7th fleet. a couple months later I received a commendation with a pat on the back and an attaboy. that was plenty for me.
There are many more I could boast upon here, but I'd rather the opportunity to show a potential employer their investment would not be wasted rather than tell them things the potentially hear from an endless stream of hopeful each day.
