Solutions Engineer, Data – GRS GLOBAL Surety

  • My core responsibility is determining and driving data technical direction for Surety, as well as a technical resource and mentor of data engineers, and promulgating engineering best practices.
  • Architected and oversaw the development of an Operational data store utilizing AWS S3 buckets, GLUE, Liquibase and Postgres. This assured business data accuracy as well and continuity for time sensitive on demand reporting.
  • Formed a data team consisting of 5 data engineers, scrum master and product owner. This provided more support to development teams and the business reducing development time, and enforcing data governance principals.
  • Led major stack modernization efforts from on prem MS SQL databases to AURORA Postgres cloud offerings. This significantly reduced the on prem foot print cost by millions of dollars per year by a pay as you use data storage model.
  • Worked with the Data Product owner to organize technical stories to support and break down Objectives and Key Results to missions, to epics and then stories for major work in the data space
  • Lead Global Surety's data privacy effort. This included identification and mitigation of Non-Public Personal information (NPPI) through the use of obfuscation tools , applying data retention policies and anonymization of data. This effort was crucial to mitigating Liberty's exposure to litigation and fines.
  • Managed multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strict deadlines and adhering to budget constraints.
  • Conducted comprehensive training sessions for team members on new technologies and best practices.

Principal Data Engineer – GRS Surety

  • Primary responsibility is supporting 5 scrum teams in the areas of data modeling, data quality, reference data management, and adherence to prescribed data architecture guidelines
  • Responsible for database performance (query tuning and optimization), SSIS package development and deployment (to support migrations efforts) as well as the subject matter expert for all database related questions from developers
  • Led end-to-end implementation of multiple high-impact projects from requirements gathering through deployment and post-launch support stages.
  • Helped Troubleshoot a multi-faceted data migration SSIS package to reduce migration time from 5 days to 22 hours
  • Tech lead on 3 major data migrations resulting in expanding Surety's footprint
  • Migrated reference data management (RDM) system, moving from an MS SQL centric platform to a service utilizing APIs for heterogeneous use across all Surety applications. This saved hundreds of hours of maintenance time as well as positioned Surety for the future.

Data Analyst – LMB Core Operations

  • Primary responsibilities are in designing and executing data model changes for Life and Employer Dev/Ops resulting in reduced data redundancy and ensuring optimal use of storage resources
  • Reviewed and approving stored procedure and database changes for Life IT Dev/Ops as well as part of the Life IT data governance group overseeing reference data (RDM) requests and ACCORD XML schema standard modifications and data quality.
  • Created a standard for model creation and modification including customizing the Erwin standard HTML template for published models as well as creating a more comprehensive, and user-friendly data dictionary in Crystal reports used in the published models
  • Lead developer in migrating Policy Holder Services developed Access databases (Noteflow and Workflow) to MS SQL server in Jan 2015. This resulted in an increase completion rate of over 90% compared to previous 30% and an 18% increase in task volume with out more personnel.
  • Worked on process improvement projects for Policy Holder Services including a utility that imports scanned letters and extracts the policy numbers and address from the text and exports to the end user for disposition. Resulted in reducing 1.5 full time employee cost resulting in a 50K yearly savings.

Senior Database Analyst

  • Responsible to the CTO and Vice President for database development, tuning, and normalization for a new enterprise-wide call center application. This resulted to a 35% higher call velocity for sales floor.
  • Lead on new report development utilizing SSRS, and Legacy report manipulation utilizing Crystal Reports, and migrating existing reports from the legacy system to the new one
  • Created a GEO based table value user defined function that pulled all zip codes in a specific mile radius of a zip code entered in by the end user used to pull contacts from a 4 million+ row contact table
  • Was instrumental in working with the business to define and create reports based on how they managed their people.
  • Created data quality tools utilized by the application to “normalize” certain contact and company demographic fields upon end user entry allowing for more uniform data selection when building call lists in new app.
  • The “go to” expert for all SQL related questions for the development team.
  • Streamlined data migration processes, ensuring accurate and timely transfer of information between systems and 3rd part sources
