I constructed/Repaired concrete walls, pillars, curbs and foundations for the Ergon Refinery in Vicksburg Mississippi. I also became a scaffolding helper for 3 months. I learned how to operate a forklift while I was there. I received proper training and certifications. Ergon gave me a lot of opportunities to learn and pick up new skills. I operated heavy machinery like skid steers, excavators and backhoes in the refinery.
In 2021 I decided to start my own concrete construction business with my father. We started off doing small residential projects and when things picked up we got into commercial projects. My father with 20 plus years of experience, taught me everything he knows about forming and pouring concrete. I handled the business side of things but I also got my hands dirty when it came to building the concrete foundations. I learned a lot about carpentry, dirt work, setting rebar and managing projects for the business. Unfortunately in 2024 business got really slow and I decided to go work in the refinery’s.
I started off as a laborer, then I became a Foreman after a few months. This was my first job after high school. I learned leadership skills and how to operate heavy machinery.
