I am a dedicated journalism/communication student at the University of Connecticut, currently serving as a Radio Broadcaster at WHUS Radio. I’ve called a variety of games and harnessed responsibilities, including calling games for various sports and ensuring high-quality broadcasts. My core competencies include radio broadcasting, journalism, and reporting, complemented by hands-on studio engineering experience to maintain optimal audio and streaming standards. I also have experience in a variety of other fields, such as food service, construction management, and more, which help me become more versatile as a worker.
I work as a radio broadcaster for WHUS Radio, which, for me, consists of calling games for a variety of different sports such as basketball, football, baseball, etc., for the University of Connecticut to be broadcasted locally on WHUS Radio’s network.
I also help in the studio by engineering games for other broadcasters, making sure they are being properly streamed on the radio with their connection, audio, and quality all being of the highest quality.
On-site, I tell laborers what they need to do from time to time if they are confused. I am also actually a pretty good source for my father (owner of the company), the site manager, Nick, and other people on the site, if they needed a little bit of translation. Most of the laborers and field workers at the job site speak Spanish and very limited English. I'm not fluent, but I learned a lot in my 4 years of Spanish in High School, especially in AP Spanish my final year, and it helped me understand most of what they were saying and have little Spanish-English conversations with them to understand what they were saying and help them communicate with the people on site who only spoke English.
A big part of my job was going around and making punch lists for the site, seeing what needed to be replaced and what was missing in the building. I also worked in the office a fair share, helping with budget reports and financing for the company.
I work at a pizza parlor where I deliver pizzas to customers, and when I am not delivering, I do dishes, pan up pizzas, clean the place up, etc., when I'm back at the restaurant.
I work as a host, busser, or food runner, whatever they need me to do on a given day. As a host, I seat people at their tables, answer the phone for anyone who calls the restaurant, handle the computer (which consists of making reservations, tracking where people are sitting, and making sure servers are seated evenly and properly), and cash out anybody who wins on Keno. Bussing just consists of cleaning tables and making sure they are ready for the next customer. Food running is just taking care of packaging take-out orders and delivering people's food to their tables.
