  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into criminal and civil matters
  • Conduct thorough interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects
  • While interviewing, I must be able to extract the necessary information in order to fully understand what took place from the different perspectives
  • I first ask vague questions and depending on the individual answers get more specific to narrow in on the truth of what actually happened
  • When interviewing suspects, I must ask guilt seeking questions to lock them in on a statement
  • If they are detained, this is done after they are read their Miranda Rights
  • Provide short and long-term solutions to complex problems
  • In several instances, the calls for services I go to are not criminal in nature
  • I must listen to both sides and help find a middle ground to help individuals compromise
  • This helps solve the problem rather than letting an issue escalate into something criminal
  • Conduct advanced criminal investigation techniques, such as:
  • Evidence collection and processing
  • This includes the collection of items involved in a violent crime such as knives, firearms, and other types of weapons
  • It can also include collecting bloody clothing worn by the victim or suspect
  • It is vital to have a strict chain of custody of these items to ensure proper handling and storage of the items into the property room
  • Photographing
  • Photographing can include injuries to persons, recovered property, or deceased persons.- Latent print processing
  • Latent print processing can be vital on recovered stolen property such as vehicles or motorcycles
  • Dusting for latent prints is also beneficial on burglaries
  • Latent print processing is effective in identifying a possible suspect in these types of crimes
  • DNA sample collection
  • This collection can include both blood and skin cells
  • This is taken by using a buccal swab with a few drops of distilled water to extract the substance
  • Conduct proactive investigations into violators of state and local laws, helping to promote a reduction in criminal activity
  • I use state and local laws to stop and identify violators
  • In many cases, I find individuals who are in the possession of illegal drugs or have warrants for their arrest
  • Conduct stationary surveillance of suspected narcotics and other violators
  • This could include sitting outside houses known to have criminal activity or drug history
  • Complete Search Warrants
  • Complete clear, comprehensive, and concise reports in a timely manner
  • Almost all types of reports must be completed by the end of shift so in order to leave on time, I must have good time management to type in between calls for service
  • Give sworn testimony in Court
  • Preform SFSTs (Standardized Field Sobriety Tests) on suspected intoxicated drivers and determine if they are safe to operate a vehicle
  • Maintain good physical shape in order to run after and potentially fight suspects who have committed a crime
  • Be proficient in both defensive and offensive tactics including striking, kicking, etc
  • Maintain good mental health
  • Be a proficient shooter with a Pistol, Rifle, and shotgun
  • Be proficient in the less lethal options such as taser, OC spray, bean bags
  • Be a proficient driver while responding to calls for service
