While working in the tool room, I primarily focused on managing, maintaining, and organizing tools and equipment. This ensures that everything needed for production ran smoothly and safely. I also kept track of tools and ensured they were available when needed. This included logging tools in and out, conducting regular inventory checks, and organizing them in an easily accessible manner. Inspecting tools for wear and tear, sharpening them, repairing or replacing damaged parts, and ensuring they’re in good working condition to prevent delays in production.
I ensured the tank was empty and free of any remaining contents. This involved draining and properly disposing of any residual materials, according to safety and environmental regulations. Scrubbing, pressure washing, or using specialized cleaning tools to remove all residue, buildup, or contaminants inside the tank. This includes cleaning the walls, floor, and any components, like valves or pipes, attached to the tank. I applied waxes or masking materials to tank to preserve, protect or restore color or condition.
My primary responsibility was to load or unload chemicals from railroad tank cars or other transport containers. This may involve operating pumps, valves, and hoses to transfer the chemicals safely between railcars, storage tanks, trucks, or other containers. Before starting the loading/unloading process, the chemloader must perform safety inspections on the equipment, the railcars, and the area to ensure there are no hazards or potential leaks. This includes checking for proper connections, ensuring the correct chemicals are being handled, and verifying that all safety equipment is functioning.
